Ohio, where you can experience all four seasons in a week or less…
Don’t get me wrong, I love the changing temperatures. Plus, I prefer cooler weather. But with five small children in my house, it means runny noses & coughing for months, no matter what I do. It also means standing in the snow or rain or slush while getting 5 tiny people into & out of car seats, walking slowly in & out of stores, & listening to little people cry about being cold or wet.
This morning, we were getting ready to go to the pediatrician’s & I ran out while the littles were all eating breakfast to throw the stroller & bags in the car. I came in, put on my shoes, & walked past the front window to see HUGE snowflakes furiously coming down. It was the type of snow that would cover the lawn in under an hour, & turn into inches in no time. Although I generally don’t mind driving in the snow, it was snowing enough that rescheduling my appointment crossed my mind.
I walked back into the kitchen & continued getting ready while I tried to decide what to do. My thoughts were interrupted by little tiny voices in the other room…
“Thank you, Jesus, for the snow.”
“Yes, thank you, Jesus. I love the snow.”
I’m sure it comes as no surprise that made my momma heart happy. But it also stopped me in my tracks. What if I had griped about the snow to my kiddos?
Could my bad attitude have influenced my children’s gratitude?
In my opinion, the answer is, undoubtedly! There is an awful lot of pressure on us as parents. I know this well. But my prayer today is that you & I might have the ability to consider what our attitude teaches our children & be reminded what it is to see the world and God’s creation through the eyes of a child.
And they were bringing children to Him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them. Mark 10:13-16
